Okay, you just bought a great grill. It doesn’t matter what you paid for it and what features it has. It could have cost you $150 or $1050, but you are not done yet. You need to get an Outdoor Grill Cover. Just looking at the picture on the left gives you the idea that there are many different types of Outdoor Grill Covers.
There are two main reasons you need a grill cover. First of all, it will protect your grill from the outside elements, weather, rain, etc. It will help you keep your grill longer.
That is a fact. Second of all, it can also make your grill look cool… giving it a bit of an attitude. Just look at the NFL grill cover. That is too cool. If you’re going to get one, get one you want!
But, before you go looking at “cool” outdoor grill covers, here are a couple of tips that can help you choose one.
1) Make sure the material is high quality. I have too many friends who bought some cheap plastic job only to get ripped when it got snagged, tossed about in a wind storm, or they tried to pull it all the way on and it ripped.
Amazingly, the difference in price between some cheapo job and high quality material is only about $10 – $20. A high quality material should last you a few years.
2) Make sure the outdoor grill covers you look at have some kind of elastic at the bottom or velcro tie downs. You will want this when the wind picks up during a storm. I bought one without them once and I never could keep my cover on when the wind exceeded 10 mph.
3) Don’t get the grille covers with the vents on the side. I’m not sure why they put these on, like your grill needs to breathe or something, but all they do is allow the rain to come in and get your unit wet. If you go to Amazon and look, you will see this is one of the top complaints – stay away from vents.
4) Look for an outdoor grill cover that actually is fit for your model of grille. There are many generic types out there, but go on Amazon and do a search to see if there are any for yours. It looks better and it protects better. If you can’t find one, that is okay, just get the one that is closest to your size.
5) Last, and you have seen me refer to this a couple of times, go to Amazon.com and do a search for Outdoor Grill Covers. Maybe type in your specific model or brand of grille. Then, and most importantly, read the reviews that are posted. You will find many that only have ratings of one or two stars. Read those and find out why they weren’t happy.
